Curriculum Goals

The collegiate requirements, the major, and electives are intended to realize the following goals:

  1. Students will acquire depth of knowledge in a major field and breadth of knowledge in the arts and humanities, natural and mathematical sciences, and social sciences.
  2. Students will synthesize and integrate knowledge and skills from across the curriculum to develop and evaluate solutions to complex problems.
  3. Students will be able to access, analyze, evaluate, and use information effectively and ethically.
  4. Students will be able to reason critically, historically, scientifically, quantitatively, and logically.
  5. Students will engage in the creative process.
  6. Students will be able to communicate effectively in writing and speaking, across differences of language and culture.
  7. Students will recognize and consider diverse perspectives and cultures.
  8. Students will be able to identify the rights and responsibilities of individuals within their own communities and in broader society.
