A Capstone in Hispanic Studies is required for the major, unless a student opts to complete the Capstone requirement offered in a different major program. The Capstone requirement may also be waived, with the permission of the department, if the student conducts directed research or other appropriate experiential learning, under the supervision of a faculty member within the Hispanic Studies program. In such cases, students may fulfill the major requirements by substituting any SPAN or HISP course as the tenth course.
Transfer and study abroad courses may also count in the above categories, as pre-approved by the department chair. Student teaching in Spanish or international internships in Spanish may be eligible to substitute for the capstone; contact the department chair for details and additional expectations.
